About this wine from

Hajós-Baja, Hungary

The wine area of Duna Borrégió is situated in the Hajos region, which is to found in Southern Hungary on an elevation, that was formerly the riverbed of the Danube. The family-owned wine cellar Pieroth Hungaria was built in 1998 and ever since has been producing high quality red and white wines which mature there in steel tanks as well as oak barriques. Muscat Ottonel is a younger and less-distinguished member of the broader Muscat family. It was created in 1852 in France by a private breeder who crossed Chasselas and Muscat Ingram. The variety is known for being the palest member of the Muscat family, in terms of color but also in terms of flavour intensity. Muscat Ottonel can be aromatic, but can have low acidity – for vignerons the challenge is to pick while slightly underripe, sacrificing some aromatic complexity for balance.
