This impressive fortified wine, similar to Port, has a deep, dark red colour. On the nose: violet blossoms, red berries, vanilla and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, red fruits, an impression of dried plums and subtle hues of cocoa create a full-bodied taste experience. The tannins are perfectly balanced and the combination of alcohol and acidity ensure that the Cape Vintage can be kept for more than 20 years.

About this wine from

Cape Town, South Africa

The Cape Vintage, a South African interpretation of port, is produced from grapes grown in specially selected vineyards which were carefully harvested by hand from mid to end of February. After removing the stalk and stems, these grapes were coarsely ground and fermented by cold-maceration in open fermentation tanks and upon reaching the desired sugar level, the fermentation was stopped by adding alcohol. The grape mash was pressed and the resulting wine was matured in 30-40 year old 300 litre oak barrels.

About the winemaker

Grimont

The company Grimont Wynkelder, based in Paarl, was founded in 1994 with South African partners and so today we can look back on more than 20 years of experience in importing wines from the Cape. In the beginning, it was only the renowned wine house Boland Kelder in Paarl that selected and supplied the wines together with us, but over the years other renowned partners have joined us to complement and round off our range.
