Hajós-Baja, Hungary

Hajós is located in southern Hungary on the Alfold Plains (the great Plains of Hungary) which used to be the riverbed of the Danube. Due to the ideal soil conditions and continental climate (hot dry summers, cold winters) this is the heart of Hungary’s wine area. Hajós is known as the village of a thousand cellars, all of which are maintained by the local winemakers. With the development of Pieroth’s partnership with exclusive boutique vineyards stretching back over many decades we continue to respect this tradition by producing high quality wines matured in both stainless steel and oak casks. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is one of the most recognised varieties worldwide being regarded as the red equivalent of the Chardonnay - its dark, thick-skinned berries produce rich intense wines with flavours of blackcurrant. These grapes are harvested whilst frozen at the very end of the season which ensures the natural fruit sugars are at their most concentrated, then the cellarmaster András Schauer and his team work their magic.
