This wine is made from 100% Merlot grapes which were harvested March last year, a few weeks later than normal due to the inclement weather conditions which delayed the ripening. The grapes were hand selected to ensure that only those of optimum ripeness and quality were pressed, then fermentation took place in stainless steel. Before bottling, the wine was stored in French oak, which helped soften the wine and develop its character.

Lonely Road was the nickname given to the railway line that went from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs, a journey of over 1,800 miles the majority of which was through the Australian wilderness. Over the years it became a key line of communication for the transport of goods from the South to the North and vice versa before air freight took over. The winemakers saw the potential and this became a fantastic opportunity for them to ensure their wines could be enjoyed in the Northern Territories. The route was originally called the Afghan Express so named after the Afghan camel drivers who, in the 19th century helped explore Australia’s remote interior.
