The Nahe has 2,000 years of wine-growing tradition and is protected from cold winds by the high Hunsrück mountains. The predominantly mild temperatures and the abundance of sunshine create an excellent climate for viticulture on the Nahe. Grape varieties such as Riesling, Rivaner and Silvaner grow on around 4,200 hectares in the beautiful Nahe valley. Around three quarters of the vineyard area is planted with the finesse-rich Riesling. The vines grow on volcanic porphyry, loess or clay soils, as well as on shale. This makes it possible to plant a wide range of grape varieties.
