A strong and bright ruby red in the glass. Very appealing and redolent nose of ripe cherries, plums and raspberries. On the palate very smooth and well balanced with and long finish. A full-bodied and still elegant wine.

A full-bodied and still elegant wine
The name of the wine is derived from the combination of the local name of the volcano Etna in Sicily "Mongibello" and the equally local name for the grape variety Nero d' Avola, which is also called "Principe Siciliano" (Sicilian Prince). On the back label is an excerpt from the play "Damigella tutta bella" by Claudio Monteverdi. The text by Gabriello Chiabrera, mentions "Mongibello" (volcano) and is about passion and "fire in the heart". So, these lines fit perfectly to this exciting Sicilian wine. Nero d' Avola is the traditional and currently most important grape variety in Sicily. Originally from the southeast, it is now cultivated throughout the island. Depending on the region, soil, climate and ageing, the wine shows different characteristics. This Riserva is matured in wooden barrels for 24 months.
Great with mature cheeses and Italian specialities such as Brasato.
